In 2008, spurred by the entrepreneurial spirit of his daughter Maria Thompson, a licensed insurance agent, Roy embarked on a new chapter by co-founding “Thompson Northeast Insurance.” This venture represented an evolution from Thompson Insurance, with a renewed emphasis on personal auto insurance and a specialization in substandard auto coverage, aimed at providing enhanced options and tailored solutions to our valued clientele.

In 2013, Joseph Thompson Grasso, the son of Maria Thompson and the grandson of John Roy Thompson, joined the agency as a licensed agent. Joseph diversified the agency’s offerings, focusing on a variety of products including property insurance such as homeowners and commercial insurance, which includes General Liability policies for businesses and Commercial Auto. Joseph also developed a specialization in Motor Carrier Insurance products that serve trucking companies and firms alike in the transportation industry.

As of 2024, Joseph is now the third-generation agency owner and has significantly expanded the agency’s reach, now serving multiple states across the country and being one of the largest Independent Insurance agencies in Pennsylvania.

Welcome to Thompson Northeast Insurance, LLC, formerly recognized as Thompson Insurance, a company that commenced its journey in 1970 on Depot Street in Clarks Summit, PA, under the visionary leadership of John Roy Thompson. With extensive experience as an insurance executive, John Roy Thompson embarked on a mission to establish an independent agency, drawing from his rich background in the life insurance industry. His pioneering vision aimed not only to offer life insurance products but also to extend a comprehensive range of property and casualty offerings to better serve his clientele.

Over the subsequent three decades, Roy cultivated a trusted household brand synonymous with reliability and excellence, serving a multitude of clients across Northeast Pennsylvania. By the turn of the millennium, as Roy redirected his focus towards his other venture, Northeast Title & Tag, Inc., he made the strategic decision to divest Thompson Insurance in 2000. Over the ensuing eight years, Roy continued his involvement in the insurance sector through collaborative partnerships with the other agencies.
